The Karavanke Tunnel connects the A2 motorway in Slovenia with the A11 motorway in Austria. As a single-tube tunnel with two-way traffic, it is a notable bottleneck. Inadequate ventilation and two-way traffic pose enormous potential hazards in the event of fire.
The project for the construction of a second tube aims to improve traffic safety, year-round access for heavy goods vehicle traffic, prevention of tailbacks, support for cross-border heavy goods vehicle transport and the reduction of environmental impact.
BEXEL’S ACTIVITIES
Bexel was appointed the BIM reviewer in front of DRI, the Engineer of the investor DARS, for the detailed design and issue for construction design phases. The BIM review consists of reviewing the BIM Execution Plan (including quality control and verification of the structure and quality of the BIM model) and clash detection reports and verification that no clashes are present in the model. Bexel is also tasked with reviewing and quality control of the model to check if it is ready for generating quantity takeoffs and 4D and 5D construction simulations, as well as for quality control and verification of the aforementioned analyses.
